Microsoft Launches New Surface AI PCs for Business Buyers
Microsoft’s latest Surface pitch is aimed squarely at businesses preparing their PC fleets for the AI era.
The tech giant launched the Surface Pro for Business 13-inch on May 19, positioning the Intel-powered 2-in-1 as a secure, manageable AI PC for organizations refreshing fleets around hybrid work and local AI workloads. The device starts at $1,949.99 and arrives alongside new Surface Laptop for Business models, all powered by Intel Core Ultra Series 3 processors.
For businesses, the question is whether Surface’s mix of portability, security, repairability, and AI processing justifies a premium price as PC refresh cycles get more complicated.
Surface Pro for Business focuses on flexibility
Microsoft announced that the Surface Pro for Business 13-inch is available now in select markets. The company is pitching it to organizations that want a tablet-style Windows PC with business-grade security, AI processing, and multiple ways to work.
“At Flagstar, we’re focused on equipping our teams with technology that’s secure, flexible, and ready for the next wave of AI,” Jason Pope, chief technology officer at Flagstar Bank, said in Microsoft’s announcement.
The Surface Pro for Business supports touch, voice, pen, and keyboard input. Microsoft said it includes on-device AI processing, laptop-level performance, and optional 5G connectivity for workers who need access away from the office.
The base configuration includes an Intel Core Ultra 5 processor, 16GB of RAM, 256GB of storage, and a 13-inch PixelSense LCD, according to The Verge. Higher-end models include Intel Core Ultra 7 processors, up to 64GB of RAM, up to 1TB of storage, OLED displays, and 5G configurations, starting at $2,249.99.
The Verge described that the design looks mostly unchanged from the previous Surface Pro model. Microsoft also kept two USB-C ports with Thunderbolt 4 support and the Surface Connect magnetic charging port.
Surface Laptop gets privacy and haptics
Microsoft also introduced new Surface Laptop for Business models in 13-inch, 13.8-inch, and 15-inch sizes.
The 13-inch Surface Laptop for Business starts at $1,499.99, with 16GB and 24GB configurations available now. Microsoft said an 8GB version will arrive later this year, starting at $1,299.99. The 13.8-inch and 15-inch Surface Laptop for Business models start at $1,949.99.
One of the more practical additions is an optional integrated privacy screen with anti-glare on select 13.8-inch configurations. The software-driven filter can be managed by IT teams or turned on by employees with a single keystroke.
Engadget noted that the privacy screen helped reduce side visibility during hands-on testing, though it did not fully block someone sitting close by from seeing the screen.
Microsoft also added an advanced haptic touchpad to select Surface Laptop for Business models. The system can give users feedback while users resize windows, drag items into place, or move near interface controls.

Microsoft keeps IT teams in mind
The Surface refresh is also about security, management, and repairability.
Every new Surface for Business device ships as a Secured-core PC, according to Microsoft. The company said firmware updates can be delivered through Windows Update, and IT teams can manage the devices through Microsoft Intune, Windows Autopilot, and the Surface Management Portal.
Microsoft also said the devices are designed to be easier to repair, with many major components replaceable and serviceable with commonly available tools.
The pricing may give some IT buyers pause, with the top Surface Pro for Business configuration reaching $4,399.99 in secondary coverage.
Microsoft stated that Surface for Business models with Snapdragon X2 processors will arrive later this year, with a focus on local AI inferencing and battery life.
