The University of NSW has released the Australian Government Women in STEM Ambassador’s 2023 Annual Review.
The breadth and depth of our work in 2023 is a testament to the team’s efforts and commitment to removing barriers to equity in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
Highlights include:
1. Providing advice:
Influence in public policy with research-backed advice to government departments and agencies, funding councils, peak bodies, businesses and educators, with the aim of
creating informed decision-making frameworks that pave the way for a more equitable future.
2. Trailblazing research:
The University of NSW crew conducted several ambitious research projects, including the analysis of Australian awarded grants by gender, a national trial of anonymous
review, and a series of rapid systematic reviews on the outcomes of programs to improve workplace equity.
3. Innovative programs, tools and resources:
Additionally, the STEM team created programs, tools and resources to empower and educate. The university’s
Future You STEM education program for 8–12-year-olds has now been viewed more than 23 million times and still is a valuable resource to inspire the next generation of STEM leaders. The STEM equity evaluation portal is being used by 145 STEM equity program
leaders, which is a testament to the commitment to transparency and accountability within the sector.
4. Amplifying impact through public outreach:
The work of the STEM group reached a total media audience of 100 million people for the Women in STEM Ambassador initiative since 2018.
