Abstract Security today added a modular security information and event management (SIEM) platform to its portfolio that also makes use of artificial intelligence (AI) to surface threats in near real time.Company CEO Colby DeRodeff said the AI-Gen Composable SIEM enables cybersecurity teams to continuously stream data into an AI platform that is designed to natively make use of agents to triage, investigate and respond to threats.That capability then makes it possible to analyze streaming data in near real time, which can then be used to automate a range of security operations (SecOps) workflows, he added.The AI-Gen Composable SIEM is also based on a modular architecture that decouples data sources and destinations to eliminate vendor lock-in, in addition to making it possible to tier and route data intelligently to reduce storage costs, said DeRodeff.Founded in 2023, Abstract Security initially developed a streaming platform specifically designed for security data that is now being extended to launch the AI-Gen Composable SIEM. In 2025, the company claims to have seen a 280% increase in new customers, which drove a 380% increase in annual recurring revenue.It’s not clear to what degree cybersecurity teams are looking to replace their existing SIEM platforms, but as the volume of data that needs to be analyzed continues to grow it is becoming apparent many legacy platforms may no longer be up to the challenge. Additionally, cybersecurity teams now need to be able to analyze threats in real time as cyberattacks increase in both volume and sophistication.Finally, many legacy SIEM platforms were not natively designed to support AI agents that are capable of analyzing and correlating massive amounts of data, noted DeRodeff.Regardless of approach, given the overall size of the attack surface that needs to be defended it’s never been more challenging to hunt for threats. Most cybersecurity teams, in the meantime, are not expanding so the only way to level the playing field will be to rely more on AI to surface threats. In effect, cybersecurity teams are still looking for needles in haystacks that continue to increase in size, said DeRodeff.Hopefully, there will come a day when AI substantially reduces the level of burnout that many cybersecurity professionals still experience when hunting and remediating threats for months on end. It’s not likely AI will replace the need for cybersecurity professionals any time soon, but the nature of the job will fundamentally change as more AI agents are deployed. The challenge then becomes how to manage a small army of AI agents that are autonomously performing tasks on behalf of a cybersecurity team.Each cybersecurity team will, of course, need to determine for itself how much faith to put in AI agents. The one thing that is certain is that adversaries will also be using AI to become even more productive than they already are so eventually every organization is going to need to be able to fight AI fire with AI fire.
