The retailer started the new year by advertising four “newly created” practice lead roles, covering service engineering, quality engineering, mobile engineering and front-end engineering domains.

All four leads will set the “technical direction” of the domain, and oversee ”communities of practice, who are responsible for delivering a global, best-in-class digital customer experience”, according to the advertisements.

A WooliesX spokesperson told iTnews that the reorganisation of engineering responsibilities is related to a tweak of an existing Agile structure that is now being implemented.

“Towards the end of last year we made changes within WooliesX as part of our continuous evolution of Agile ways of working,” the spokesperson said.

“As part of the changes we refined our structures to simplify reporting lines to allow speedier delivery, while also supporting our teams’ growth and development.

“We’ve already begun the transition to the new structure, and are currently recruiting for a number of roles across the team.”

The spokesperson said that the structural changes are intended to enable teams “to better support the Woolworths Group and to create more opportunities for our team to do their best work.”

“As a business we began our transition to an Agile structure a number of years ago, so we’ve already been working in practices, tribes and squads for some time,” the spokesperson said.

“Over the last three years there have been significant changes to our business, driven by changing customer behaviours and shopping patterns. 

“This includes the addition of new eCommerce services and direct-to-boot, as well as the addition of new businesses, such as MyDeal and Petstock, to the group. 

“As a result, the time was right for us to update our structure between our teams and teams across the group.”
