The university “detected and contained” a security incident on Sunday December 10, but said at the time that it was likely that staff and student data was accessed.

In an updated incident notice, the university now said it has “implemented new security controls over key cloud-based systems incorporating the latest best-practice techniques.

“We have also activated additional security monitoring services.”

The university clearly regards the leakage of email addresses as the greatest risk to its users, warning them of potential phishing attacks against their emails.

“There is a function to report phishing in Outlook when you have the email open,” the university noted.

However, the university added that it has not yet received reports of phishing arising out of the breach.

IDCARE support is available for affected staff.

Data which may have been accessed includes name, address, email address, phone number, and possibly bank and bank account number, and superannuation member number.
