The university’s recruitment advertisement notes that the CIO will be supporting more than 12,000 students as well as its staff.

Kefford described the role as a “wonderful opportunity to lead an amazing team and continue the transformational journey we’ve been on”.

The advertisement states that the incoming CIO’s first 12 months will focus on delivering the university’s digital roadmap, “with an enterprise CRM program a key component.”

A university spokesperson told iTnews Kefford’s acceptance of the newly-created CSIO role was announced to university staff last October.

Kefford presented “the establishment of a new function focussed on driving service excellence across the university” to the university’s executive leadership last year, deputy vice chancellor finance and chief operating officer, Mike Conry wrote in the staff newsletter.

“He saw the opportunity to build internal capability to drive efficiency and consistency in our processes and to leverage our systems more effectively as an enabler to generate greater level of engagement across the university.

“I want to personally thank Darryl for his tireless efforts over many years as our CIO that has seen the university’s technology landscape significantly improve over this time,” Conry wrote.

Kefford first took the CIO role in January 2018, after more than two years as a program director in the university.

Prior to that, he spent more than three years in various ICT roles at Western Power, followed by a brief stint with IT service management company ASG Group.
