Motorola acquires London surveillance firm Silent Sentinel

London-based full-service investment bank Cavendish has facilitated the sale of Silent Sentinel, a renowned provider of advanced video surveillance solutions and specialised long-range cameras, to Motorola Solutions, an international leader in comprehensive video security solutions.

Silent Sentinel, which was founded in 2002, is a globally recognised and award-winning provider of advanced surveillance and intelligent detection systems, primarily for the Homeland Security market. Its offerings, all built around their proprietary NexOS operating software, ensure a unique value proposition for customers who require tailored, high-end technology solutions. Silent Sentinel’s technology is pivotal in safeguarding critical environments associated with military, maritime, aviation, and critical infrastructure, the company states.

The acquisition deal is aligned with Motorola Solutions’ objectives and boosts their portfolio of fixed video cameras. It allows for growth with government and critical infrastructure customers, thereby reinforcing Motorola’s global standing in delivering end-to-end video security solutions.

Notably, Silent Sentinel’s senior leadership team will continue in their existing roles and will report to Mark Schmidl, Senior Vice President, International Sales, of Motorola Solutions.

Anthony Platt, Partner and Head of Technology at Cavendish, highlighted the critical role of Silent Sentinel’s technology in safeguarding international borders and critical infrastructures. He said, “Given the geopolitical backdrop, Silent Sentinel’s technology has been in high demand, and the acquisition gives Motorola Solutions access to new markets. It is great to lead on the sale of UK technology firms to major US tech and telecoms acquirers like Motorola.”

Sam Kavanagh, Director at Cavendish, praised the deal: “We are delighted to have worked with Paul and the Silent Sentinel team to deliver this transformational deal that will strengthen Motorola’s proposition and directly contribute to their ambitious growth objectives.”

Kavanagh continues, “At Cavendish, we pride ourselves on advising entrepreneurial growth businesses and this transaction underscores our ability to engage with international buyers and successfully navigate cross-border technology M&A deals.”

Expressing his satisfaction with the deal, Paul Elsey, Managing Director at Silent Sentinel, stated, “We are thrilled to join Motorola Solutions and build upon their industry-leading portfolio and continue to support our customers in the most challenging of environments.” He also thanked Cavendish for their advice and guidance, saying they provided “invaluable counsel and a streamlined process throughout.”

The transaction bolsters Cavendish’s burgeoning credentials within the technology sector and underlines their aptitude for advising in global tech acquisitions. The transaction team, led by Anthony Platt (Head of Technology), included Sam Kavanagh and Soben Durai.
