In readiness for the forthcoming UNECE WP.29 regulations, LG Magna e-Powertrain – the joint venture between LG Electronics and Magna International – has received certification from global certification organisation, TV Rheinland for its Cyber Security Management System (CSMS, ISO/SAE 21434:2021). The certification confirms LG Magna’s comprehensive security system coverage and full compliance with relevant vehicle cybersecurity regulations.
The UNECE WP.29 regulations are set to become effective from July 2024. These rules necessitate that all new automotive vehicles produced for sale meet a freshly established suite of cybersecurity management regulations to secure type approval. This approval is essential for selling vehicles in 56 countries, including EU member states, the UK, Japan, and South Korea.
These regulations will mandate automakers to prepare all their vehicle components and systems for cybersecurity threats throughout their lifecycles. ISO/SAE 21434, an internationally accepted standard associated with vehicle cybersecurity, outlines the processes for establishing and upholding cybersecurity from the planning and development stage through to vehicle manufacturing, maintenance, and disposal.
To ensure its capacity to meet the rising demand from global automakers for advanced, highly secure vehicle components, LG Magna is developing an extensive cybersecurity framework. By applying and systematically updating a comprehensive cybersecurity process across the life of each product, LG Magna aims to maintain up-to-date protection. This process includes identifying and assessing product security threats and creating appropriate response strategies as per ISO/SAE 21434 guidelines. LG Magna has even put in place risk monitoring systems for swift issue remediation.
