The Sir John Monash Foundation, known for its John Monash Scholarships Program, has opened its application process for 2025. The program aims to identify and nurture Australia’s future global leaders by providing exceptional Australians with funding to undertake postgraduate studies at top international universities. This opportunity allows them to broaden their skills and global connections, ultimately benefiting Australia in the long term.
Over the past two decades, more than 260 Australians have received these coveted scholarships across a wide range of fields, including medicine, health, arts, engineering, business, law, mathematics, science, and Indigenous affairs. Scholars have pursued their studies at esteemed international institutions like the University of Oxford, Harvard University, the University of Cambridge, MIT, Stanford University, and Johns Hopkins University.
Foundation CEO Paul Ramadge said: “The John Monash Scholarships are not just financial aid but investments in Australia’s future leadership. By enabling our brightest talents to learn from the best in the world, we create a catalyst for innovation and positive change that will resonate throughout our society. The heart of the Foundation’s mission is nation-building. We are striving to build a community of Scholars, now numbering 264, who have become a formidable force for good – a talent bank of leaders who will guide our country forward.”
The scholarship is open to Australian citizens who have completed or are close to completing a degree from an Australian university and are preparing to commence their postgraduate studies overseas in the forthcoming calendar year. As part of the application process, candidates must demonstrate how their proposed course of study will contribute to their field and to Australian society.

Through the John Monash Scholarships, we recognise their achievements and support their professional journey at every step.”
Successful applicants will receive significant financial support of up to AUD 240,000 over three years, along with other benefits like exclusive access to the John Monash Foundation Leadership Academy and its network of Scholars worldwide. Applicants must display academic and professional excellence, demonstrated leadership, and a proven commitment to making a positive impact on society.
Scholarship applications for the John Monash Scholarships open on May 1, 2024, and the closing date is July 1, 2024, at 5 pm AEST. Candidates are encouraged to apply online and must articulate the relevance of their chosen study program and destination as part of their application.
