The Global Network Foundation, the group with the aim to ensure the web’s security and enhance its availability, has ceased its operations, as reported by The Register. Having closed its virtual gates on September 27, the foundation declares that its goal has been predominantly achieved and that other organizations can continue the legacy.
Back in 2009, when the establishment was established, only a little over a fifth of the global population had internet access, and there were few initiatives striving to alter this scenario. Presently, this figure has risen to approximately 70%, and numerous organizations are striving to push it even higher.
Tim Berners-Lee, who is the co-founder of the foundation and the innovator behind the World Wide Web, along with Rosemary Leith, conveyed in a statement on the Foundation’s website that they are enthusiastic about addressing other obstacles.
