The Australian Federal Police (AFP) is looking to replace its core enterprise resource planning platform within the next three years.

The federal police force uses SAP ECC 6.0 for human resources and payroll management.

However, the platform is “nearing the end of its useful life” and scheduled to be out of support by October 2027.

The AFP is now embarking on a year-long “discovery process” to determine the “automation, modernisation and systems integration” requirements to move up to an SAP S/4HANA system.

“SAP is the AFP’s core ERP solution and is part of the AFP’s strategic roadmap,” an AFP spokesperson said.

“As per the SAP roadmap, the AFP will look to take advantage of a modern platform and services.”

The AFP has recently sought outside assistance from SAP transformation specialists.

In particular, it is seeking analysts with skills in ECC.6 to S/4 HANA upgrades, SAP cloud solutions within the HR space and the business tools ARIS, Visio and SAP Signavio.

“SAP is an enabling system that supports AFP members,” the AFP spokesperson added.

“The initial scoping phase is to map business requirements, conceptual and solution architecture and develop options.

“Future plans will be developed as part of the initial scoping phase.”

Last year, the AFP launched an updated investigation system, replacing its long-standing PROMIS case management platform.
