Australian Energy Regulator appoints permanent CIO

The Australian Energy Regulator has its first permanent chief information officer since becoming a standalone agency at the start of July.

Daniel Woolstencroft started in the CIO role on September 14, having previously led IT at the Australian Public Service Commission (APSC).

Woolstencroft confirmed his appointment in a brief LinkedIn post.

“I’m looking forward to working with an amazing team of people to build the future of digital and data services for the AER,” he wrote.

The AER did have an interim CIO since the beginning of this year in the form of Leigh Berrell.

It’s understood that prior to Berrell, IT responsibilities within the AER were split between a number of different roles.

Woolstencroft has now taken over as CIO, and is the agency’s first IT chief since separating from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) on July 1.

It’s understood he will lead a digital transformation program at the AER, in addition to holding more standard technology leadership responsibilities.
