Sophos Celebrates International Day of the Girl 2024

Sophos stands in solidarity with the worldwide community in honoring Global Day of the Girl on the 11th of October. This significant occasion sheds light on the distinct obstacles and possibilities that girls encounter across the globe, particularly in relation to gender disparity in domains like education, nourishment, legal entitlements, healthcare, and safeguarding against bias.

At Sophos, we are dedicated to championing the rights of girls and promoting gender parity, enabling girls to realize their full capabilities. This year, our Sophos Women in Technology Network (SWiT) is embarking on substantial initiatives to motivate young women to explore prospects in technology.

Abingdon Student Round Table Gathering

In the United Kingdom, we welcomed a cohort of students from a nearby school to our Abingdon premises for a sequence of immersive engagements intended to introduce them to careers in tech. Focused on girls aged 12 to 13, the event encompassed perspectives from leaders in different business sectors and an exhilarating code-breaking activity, encouraging them to contemplate technical disciplines as feasible and fulfilling career routes.

Dallas Outreach Day organized by Sophos

In the United States, we organized a “Cookies and Conversation” session for girls at a local school in Dallas, featuring Dr. Rickenya Sisk from IDEA Public Schools. This initiative aimed to ignite the interest of young girls in understanding the significance of cybersecurity and contemplating careers in technology, showcasing the roles we fulfill at Sophos.

Webinar on UK Software Engineering Internship by Sophos

This October, our UK Engineering unit will conduct a dedicated webinar for university scholars pursuing studies in Computer Science or related domains and seeking a one-year software engineering internship. The session will spotlight Sophos’ effective intern initiative, offering viewpoints from engineering supervisors and showcasing actual intern assignments. Participants will gain insights into flexible work schemes, Sophos’ vow to cultivate an inclusive and diverse manpower, and the chance to interact with current and previous interns for occupational counsel. With ten vacancies open for 2025, the team is especially urging women to apply as we strive to boost female representation in tech.

Empowering Women in Cybersecurity Webinar held in Manila

In the Philippines, we hosted a stimulating webinar, known as “Empowering Women in Cybersecurity,” linking female pupils and experts. In collaboration with EC-Council ASEAN, the event featured female authorities in cybersecurity sharing their personal odysseys, achievements, and pragmatic suggestions for navigating careers in tech. The deliberations underscored the crucial role of diversity in cybersecurity and how women are transforming the sector.

Support to the Australian Women in Security Network Sponsorship

Elsewhere in APJ, SWIT proudly endorses 10 staff members to join the Australian Women in Security Network (AWSN). This non-profit organization is committed to enlightening women and girls about security matters and enhancing female representation in the sector. Members will access tools, intelligence, networking possibilities, and mentoring platforms, and we eagerly anticipate disseminating their perspectives from AWSN gatherings.

Canada’s FY25 SWiT Bursary Initiative

The Americas Support unit has launched the FY25 SWiT Bursary initiative, designed to bolster gender variety in the tech world by granting CAD $4500 bursaries to women at four Canadian technical institutes. Objectives for this year involve analyzing the effectiveness of earlier bursaries, making enhancements, exploring supplementary funding channels for STEM studies, and consolidating connections between students and SWiT contributors.

As we persist in our mission to endorse gender equality and back young women in technology, Sophos proudly observes Global Day of the Girl and remains resolute in shaping a world where every girl can flourish and triumph.
