Google has continuously tried to substitute cookies…with the aim of striking a balance between user privacy and the requirements of advertisers,” commented Jason Soroko, a senior executive at Sectigo, a company specializing in managing certificate lifecycles. “Yet these endeavors have faced challenges due to opposition from privacy supporters, regulatory obstacles, and technological hurdles.”
These obstacles likely influenced Google’s choice to postpone withdrawing its support for cookies, noted Soroko, pointing to the “intricate dynamics involving innovation, privacy issues, and regulatory structures.”
Even more disheartening is that the organization “seems to lack a definitive strategy for introducing enhanced privacy and security measures to counter tracking,” remarked a privacy specialist, who doubts Google’s commitment.
