UK proposes giving digital workers the ‘right to switch off’

The fresh administration in the UK is contemplating how to facilitate digital workers using constant technologies to power them down when the workday concludes.

In the Labour Party’s Strategy for Enhancing Salary, released prior to claiming victory in the UK’s July general elections, it committed to tackling this matter by stating “We will introduce the ‘freedom to disconnect’ to ensure that working remotely does not lead to residences transforming into non-stop workplaces.”

This week, the topic received renewed attention as a government representative informed the BBC, “Responsible employers recognize that in order for workers to remain enthusiastic and efficient, they must be able to disconnect. A culture of presenteeism can have adverse effects on productivity,” stated a government spokesperson on Monday.
