Last week, Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy made an announcement stating that the company’s vast workforce of over 350,000 office-based employees must adhere to a standard five-day office work routine. Jassy’s argument for this decision is that it will enhance productivity.
However, a recent survey by Blind, an online platform for verified IT professionals, sought the opinion of 2,585 Amazon staff members regarding this policy shift. The survey results indicated that a significant 91% of the employees were unfavorable towards the compulsory office attendance. Moreover, 73% of the participants expressed their willingness to explore new job opportunities due to this mandate.
Blind noted that the new regulation is likely to have a profound impact on Amazon employees who are also parents, as it eliminates their flexibility and autonomy, as well as on individuals who were initially hired for remote work or granted accommodations for more adaptable working schedules.
