In the initial Gartner evaluation for Email Security Platforms, a total of 14 companies were featured.

According to the report released this week, six cybersecurity providers were selected to be part of the prestigious “leaders” segment in Gartner’s inaugural Magic Quadrant for Email Security Platforms.
Among the companies positioned in the sought-after “leaders” quadrant were Proofpoint, Abnormal Security, Trend Micro, Mimecast, KnowBe4 (following its Egress acquisition), and Check Point.

It is worth mentioning that Microsoft was placed just beyond the “leaders” quadrant, being categorized by Gartner analysts as one of the “challengers” in the realm of email security.
The need for email security remains robust as phishing and social manipulation threats persistently present a significant hazard to organizations, often serving as an initial phase leading to a ransomware or data breach attack.
While assessing companies for the inaugural Magic Quadrant for Email Security Platforms, Gartner considered the companies based on their operational performance and the comprehensiveness of their outlook as of October 2024.
As per the Gartner report, three suppliers — Ironscales, Perception Point, and Barracuda — were placed in the “visionaries” quadrant for Email Security Platforms.
Regarding the “challengers” quadrant in email security, Gartner’s experts picked two suppliers, namely Microsoft and Darktrace.
In the Gartner report, it was highlighted in the “caution” segment that “Microsoft’s progressions mainly depend on advancements in related security sectors, such as XDR and Copilot for Security, rather than the direct enhancement of email security capabilities.”

In the “niche players” quadrant of email security, Gartner analysts incorporated Cisco, Cloudflare, and Hornetsecurity.
Gartner delineated various essential attributes for email security, including screening for phishing and junk mail, scrutinizing and isolating attachments, scrutiny and defense for URLs, and email data protection capabilities like data leak prevention and encryption.
