Privacy policies have gone insane. Doubt it? Consider Instacart

The confidentiality policy outlines all the data collected by Instacart and upholds the authority to utilize or disclose such data at its discretion. The specifics of the collection rely on the services utilized by a consumer.

For instance, a vehicle registration number could pose a concern during a customer’s curbside pickup. The disclosure of health data could potentially arise if pharmaceutical prescriptions are provided, and in cases of pharmacy deliveries, Instacart states that it could keep, employ, and possibly share “your previous, current or future physical or mental well-being or status; the provision of health services to you; or your previous, current, or future settlement for health services.”

Despite declaring that personal health details will not be revealed “without prior documented consent,” Instacart enlists a variety of exemptions, including the ambiguous and encompassing provision “in connection with a business transaction or insolvency proceeding.”
