NSO Group, an Israeli firm, distributes Pegasus spyware to various nations globally (including countries such as Saudi Arabia, UAE, India, Mexico, Morocco and Rwanda). Previous assumptions suggested that these nations utilized the spyware internally. However, recent revelations have shown that NSO Group employees are the ones responsible for operating the spyware on behalf of their clients.

Legal documents made public during the current legal dispute between NSO Group and WhatsApp in the United States have disclosed that it is the Israeli cyber weaponry manufacturer – not the government entities as believed previously – who undertake the “installation and retrieval” of data from the targeted mobile phones using the company’s hacking tools.
