What were the top government technology and cybersecurity blog posts in 2025? The metrics tell us what cybersecurity and technology infrastructure topics were most popular.

As I covered in my year-end cyber review last month, there were numerous headline-grabbing cybersecurity stories in 2025 — many focused on AI. So as we look back 12 months, what were the most popular “Lohrmann on Cybersecurity” blogs in the past year? Of course, I hope you’ll read all of the posts, but the list of top blogs below tells a wider story of what readers like and want to see more of.
Some of these first appeared in 2025, while others posted in previous years are still getting a lot of global attention. In case you missed these, please read and share. We crunch the numbers every January and offer you the opportunity to go back and focus on the details within topics that others are reading and spending their time on, or that have special significance.
Side note of reference: The cyber industry security prediction reports do amazingly well every year, and they always sit at or near the top of the most viewed blogs each year. While I am excluding those from this top 10 list, I put them here for your reference, since these four comprehensive lists would all be in the top 10:

MOST POPULAR BLOGS IN 2025
According to the data, here are the 10 most viewed blogs from the past year:
1. “Should States Ban Mandatory Human Microchip Implants?”: “A new report examines the rise of pre-emptive bans on mandated human microchip implants, noting that 13 states have recently enacted such a ban, despite no companies currently requiring the technology.”
3.Is There a Robot in Your Future?”: “Recent developments in humanoid robots are grabbing plenty of global attention. Here are some intriguing robot developments and why we all need to pay attention.”
5. “Despite Disruptions, Hope for Federal Employees Who Stay”: “While attention is on federal government staff who are leaving, my focus is on those who remain. I’d like to offer personal experiences and lessons learned from government cuts and reorgs during my time with Michigan IT.”
6. “Where Is Government When It Comes to Cloud in 2025?”: “A new report just released by Forrester highlights the growing cloud footprint in the public sector globally, along with challenges ahead in areas such as security and modernizing core applications.”
10. “Midyear Roundup: Nation-State Cyber Threats in 2025”: “What is the current situation with nation-state cyber attacks in the middle of 2025? Here’s a look at some of the biggest cyber threats from Russia, China, Iran and North Korea.”
SOME THOUGHTS ON THE NUMBERS
I find it interesting that despite the double-digit blogs I wrote in the past year on AI, those did not do as well. While I do not regret those stories and focus areas, the lesson for me is to be more specific about how AI will impact a particular business or government area in 2026 — and focus on that more than just the technology.
Of course, I will continue to offer interviews with leaders, relevant tech trends for governments and much more, but I also plan to write about topics that are popular and others write less about.
I will also clearly note if I use materials from OpenAI, Gemini, ChatGPT or other sources, since I want you to know my words are not being written by GenAI engines.
