The colossal social platform Meta and the music powerhouse Universal Music Group, or UMG, are broadening their existing profound music accord. The fresh agreement permits Meta’s users to exchange tracks from Universal’s vast music collection on Facebook, Instagram, Horizon, Threads, and Whatsapp – all owned by Meta – without infringing copyright laws, as reported by Techcrunch.
The deal will also focus on the handling of “illegitimate AI-produced content.” This pertains to situations where music is extracted by AI mechanisms, often without the original creator’s authorization.
“We are eager to continue our collaborative efforts in tackling unauthorized AI-generated content that might impact artists and composers to ensure that UMG can uphold their rights both currently and in the days ahead,” mentioned Michael Nash, the Chief Digital Officer and Executive Vice President of Universal Music Group, in a released statement.
