Malware Attack Targeting Taiwanese Individuals Using Counterfeit Messaging Applications
A type of Android malicious software that was previously identified targeting members of the Indian armed forces has now been associated with a recent scheme possibly directed at individuals in Taiwan through the façade of messaging applications.
“By utilizing fake chat apps, PJobRAT has the capability to extract SMS messages, phone lists, device and application data, files, and multimedia content from compromised Android devices,” highlighted Sophos cybersecurity expert Pankaj Kohli in an analysis released on Thursday.
Initially identified as PJobRAT, this malicious software, was discovered infecting devices in India and is now expanding its reach to Taiwanese users through the use of deceptive chat applications.
