Taxes on digital services on the agenda at G20 meeting

Ministers of finance from the G20 nations will convene this week in Rio de Janeiro to deliberate on whether to implement a worldwide tariff on digital services.

Out of the eight participating nations – France, India, Italy, Canada, Spain, United Kingdom, Turkey, and Austria – have made the decision to enforce duties autonomously, primarily impacting major American technology corporations like Amazon, Apple, and Google.

In retaliation, the United States has issued a warning of potential countermeasures, including the imposition of tariffs on an array of products ranging from French sparkling wine to Italian designer handbags, as reported by Reuters.
