OpenAI, the developer of ChatGPT, has been fined €15 million ($15.66 million) by Italy’s data protection watchdog for the mishandling of personal data by its generative artificial intelligence software.
Almost a year after the discovery by Garante that ChatGPT utilized users’ data for training purposes, which infringed upon the regulations of the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the fine was imposed by the regulatory body.
