According to reports, Ticketmaster has allegedly been hacked by ShinyHunters, a group that claims to have extracted 1.3 terabytes of personal information belonging to 560 million Ticketmaster clients.
Live Nation Entertainment, Ticketmaster’s parent firm, verified the existence of unauthorized actions on a cloud database managed by a third party in a submission to the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).
It is rumored that the group is requesting a payment for ransom amounting to $500,000 to avoid trading the data illicitly on the dark web.
This incident follows closely on the heels of a legal case filed in federal court in the US, which is accusing Ticketmaster and its parent organization of monopolistic behavior in the live music sector, controlling nearly 80% of significant entertainment ticket transactions.
In the grand scheme of things, the main sufferers are the clients, hence it is crucial to stay vigilant for any hints of cybersecurity threats and secure your accounts with multi-step verification whenever feasible.
