IBM has reportedly laid off thousands

An extensive number of workforce reductions have reportedly been executed by IBM. Sarah Minkel, an IBM representative, communicated in a relatively unclear manner to Computerworld, the following statement hinting at the staff cuts: “Earlier this year, IBM announced a financial charge for reorganizing the workforce, which is anticipated to affect a very small percentage of IBM’s global employees. Our projections suggest that by the end of 2024, the employee count will remain consistent with the number at the beginning of the year.”

The Register conducted an analysis based on IBM’s employment data across the globe. They mentioned, “Considering IBM had approximately 288,000 employees worldwide by the end of 2023, the possible percentages for the year 2024 could range from 1 percent (equivalent to 2,880 job cuts), to 2 percent (totaling 5,760 layoffs), 3 percent (amounting to 8,640 staff reductions), or potentially more.” The Register article also highlighted, “During the previous year, CEO Arvind Krishna announced IBM’s intentions to substitute about 7,800 positions with AI systems, although a precise timeline was not provided.”
