The objective is to merge Magic Leap’s optical hardware intellectual property and production proficiency with Google’s immersive technologies and developer community to work on extended reality (XR) advancements, stated in a blog post by the companies. The term XR encompasses augmented reality, virtual reality, and mixed reality technologies.
Shahram Izadi, vice president and general manager of AR/XR at Google, expressed, “We are excited to combine Magic Leap’s expertise in optics and manufacturing with our technologies to introduce a broader array of immersive encounters to the market.” He further stated in a press release, “Through collaborative efforts, we can nurture the future of the XR landscape by offering distinctive and pioneering products.”
