An announcement from Microsoft to begin phasing out Office 365 connections in Microsoft Teams has sparked a wave of backlash.
An announcement from Microsoft to begin phasing out Office 365 connections in Microsoft Teams has sparked a wave of backlash.
As per a recent post on the Microsoft blog, commencing August 15, the creation of any new “linkages will be restricted across all platforms,” and as of October 1, “all associations across all platforms will cease to function.”
The blog highlights that Office links in Microsoft Teams facilitate the direct delivery of content and service updates from external services into a Teams channel, enabling team members to remain well-informed and synchronized. These linkages integrate with services like Trello, GitHub, RSS feeds, BitBucket, and Azure DevOps, providing users with the capability to, for instance, collaborate and oversee software projects online, handle and collaborate on code projects, receive RSS feeds, or receive notifications upon the creation of videos, all within Teams.
