Amazon CEO wants workers back in the office five days a week

CEO of Amazon, Andy Jassy, has stated that the employees of the company will soon be required to operate from the workplace every day of the workweek, following the pattern established before the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. Previously, employees were mandated to be physically present at the office solely three days a week.

Reflecting on the previous five years, Jassy expressed his belief in the substantial advantages of working together in the office environment. In a message addressed to the employees, Jassy stated, “Having reviewed the past five years, we remain convinced of the invaluable benefits of our physical togetherness in the office setting.” Jassy further highlighted that it is more convenient for employees to acquire knowledge, model behaviors, undergo training, and fortify the company’s culture in-office; fostering collaboration, sparking creativity, and encouraging innovation are evidently more streamlined and effective in a physical setting; sharing knowledge and expertise amongst colleagues occurs more organically; and teams are inherently more interconnected.

While employees will still have the flexibility to work remotely based on individual needs, it will no longer be the standard procedure for all employees. This newly proposed arrangement is expected to take effect on January 2, 2025.
