Mozilla’s advocacy arm cuts 30% of staff

In contrast to previous reports, Borrman mentioned that the reorganization would not hinder its dedication to promoting open-source and complimentary internet. “To the opposite, championing remains a fundamental aspect of Mozilla Foundation’s undertakings,” he remarked. “Defending a complimentary and open internet will always stand at the heart of our purpose, and championing continues to be a vital means in that endeavor. We are in the procedure of reconsidering our strategy toward it.”Together with the Mozilla Foundation, Mozilla currently comprises of five companies: the Mozilla Corporation, which drives consumer product-centered activities; Mozilla Ventures, a philanthropic investment fund; Mozilla.ai, an AI R&D laboratory; and MZLA, accountable for creating Thunderbird.

Back in 2020, the Mozilla Corporation reduced approximately 25% of its international workforce of 1,000 workers, indicating that the economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic “had a substantial effect on our earnings.”

Borrman highlighted that the staff reductions did not have an impact on any of the other Mozilla organizations.
