She contended that SB 1047 “will negatively impact our emerging AI network,” especially impacting industries that are already disadvantaged in contrast to prominent technology corporations, such as the government sector, educational institutions, and smaller technology companies.
Even certain AI experts and programmers who endorse the concept of control have disapproved of the proposal. Andrew Ng, a notable AI innovator and former chief of AI at Google, has criticized the proposal as “anti-opensource” and “anti-creativity” in a recent post, stating that it targets the extensive progression of AI technology rather than concentrating on specific harmful uses.
Not merely technology frontrunners, but also Democratic legislators have expressed their vehement opposition towards the proposal. Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, representing San Francisco, has been especially forceful in her disagreement, labeling the proposal as “well-meaning yet ill-informed.” She and Representatives Ro Khanna and Zoe Lofgren assert that the proposal could adversely impact California’s technology sector by enforcing stringent regulations that might discourage AI evolution.
