The largest grant under the CHIPS Act to date went to Intel, securing $8.5 billion. Intel’s plan is to utilize the funding for the advancement of its commercial semiconductor projects across various states including Arizona, New Mexico, Ohio, and Oregon. Moreover, the company has stated that this financial provision is set to generate over 10,000 new positions within the company, along with nearly 20,000 construction-related jobs. Additionally, over 50,000 indirect job opportunities will be supported through suppliers and associated industries.

The NSTC, functioning as a collaborative venture between the public and private sectors, will spearhead cutting-edge research on next-gen semiconductor technologies by facilitating the design, prototyping, and pilot runs of the most recent semiconductor innovations.

GlobalFoundries, with locations in Malta, N.Y., and Essex Junction, VT., is poised to benefit from approximately $1.5 billion in funding aimed at aiding its expansion and the establishment of enhanced manufacturing capabilities for various sectors including automotive, IoT, aerospace, defense, and more. GF’s chips play a crucial role in a multitude of applications, from enhancing safety features like blind-spot detection and collision alerts in vehicles, to improving the longevity of electric vehicles and smartphones between charges, as well as ensuring secure and dependable Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity.
