Apple prepares for app installation on iPads in the European Union
They may be concerned about losing political donations if they proceed with this.
And so, let the competition commence
Despite this, the trial of the grand European App Store has started, and while there are only a few alternative stores at the moment, this could change. Apart from Apple’s App Store, users of iPhones and iPads in Europe can now select from Setapp Mobile, AltStore PAL, Aptoid, Mobivention, and the Epic Games Store. (Among these, two are game markets, one is a business-to-business app distribution service, SetApp is an application subscription service, and Aptoid is an independent app store that supports open-source.)
Great things often have small beginnings. However, my prediction is that as more stores emerge, the industry will become more competitive, leading to growth until mergers and acquisitions come into play. After the expected market consolidation, it is likely that we will have a couple of stores with unique selling points, and two or three larger entities, one of which could be Apple’s App Store.
