Live Nation Entertainment has finally confirmed that it is looking into a data breach within its Ticketmaster division that was discovered on May 20. This incident is the most recent among a series of notable corporate breaches over the past year.

Live Nation investigating Ticketmaster breach

Live Nation stated in a submission to the US Securities and Exchange Commission that it had identified “unauthorized activity” in a third-party cloud database that primarily stored Ticketmaster information and is now collaborating with digital forensic experts.

Reports from various sources indicated that last week, an obscure cybercriminal group named ShinyHunters declared that it had acquired user details belonging to over 500 million Ticketmaster clients.

Live Nation did not reference ShinyHunters in its SEC submission.

The organization did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters.

The breach occurred amid increasing regulatory scrutiny for the concert promoter due to antitrust issues.

Last week, Live Nation faced the initial consumer antitrust lawsuit in what is likely to be a series of legal actions after the US government and individual states began legal proceedings to dismantle the enterprise, claiming that the firm, together with its Ticketmaster division, was illicitly elevating concert ticket prices.

Live Nation indicated in its submission that on May 27, “a criminal threat actor claimed to be selling the company’s user information on the dark web.”

“We are taking steps to minimize risks to our users and the enterprise and have notified and are collaborating with law enforcement agencies,” the company stated.

“As deemed necessary, we are also informing regulatory bodies and users regarding unauthorized access to personal data.”

According to the company, the breach has had no significant impact and is unlikely to affect Live Nation’s operations or finances.

“We are continuously assessing the risks, and our efforts to rectify the situation are ongoing,” Live Nation assured.
