REA Group has appointed Thyago Liberalli to a newly-created chief AI officer role.

The real estate and proptech group announced the appointment in a LinkedIn post on its corporate account.

He comes from Seek, where he spent the last 13 years in various roles, including three years as Asia Pacific director of AI, and eight years as global director of AI and machine learning.

“We’re delighted to welcome Thyago Liberalli to REA Group as our new chief AI officer,” the company wrote.

“Thyago brings more than 20 years’ experience across AI, data, and technology transformation, having worked across Australia, Latin America, and Asia-Pacific.

“He joins us at an exciting moment as we deepen what AI delivers across our business, building products and capabilities that create real, measurable value for our customers, consumers, and our team.”

The chief AI officer role is newly-created, and designed to connect existing AI capabilities within REA and drive the company’s broader AI agenda.

It’s understood that Liberalli will focus on introducing the next generation of AI systems into REA and accelerating the transition from experimentation to practical, scalable products and capabilities that create deeper value for customers, consumers and employees.

The role reports to chief technology officer Steve Maidment.
